The Brief History of Ikare.

Ikare was founded by Agba Ode an Ife prince who was one of the grand children of Oduduwa. He migrated from Ile Ife during the disaster period like other Yoruba princes with his Chiefs, like the Olona, the Olokoja, Akuko, Oloyinmo and so many others with members of his family.
He traversed various areas and eventually settled in Ikare based on instructions from Ifa. But when he was leaving, they were sharing the properties of their grand father, Oduduwa and when they were sharing the crowns, Agba Ode who was relatively young realised that he might not get out of this, so he went to Ile-Ife and picked one of the crowns.
Agba Ode settled at a place now known as Oke Iba, it is behind a porpular hill called Oke Owa Ale or Oke Baba wa, meaning the hill of our progenitor and that’s why at Ikare today, the indigenes are called “Ikare Omo Oloke Meji tako tabo”.
At that hilly place they noticed two significant things when they got there during the dry season. There was a brook on the hill which is still there today, and its called Omi Atan, and throughout that dry season the water never dries up. They also settled under a tree where there were weaver birds, a tree which we call Igi Akere.
Agba Ode and his entourage settled under this tree, the uniqueness of that tree was that Ikare derived its name-from the tree “Igi Akere”.
More than two hundred years after Agba Ode had settled down, Umar Etimigbo the ancestors of the present day Olukare migrated from Bida. They called him Umar “Etimigbo” which is an appellation because whenever they talk to him, he will tell them that he cannot understand and that was the reason they named him Etimigbo.
Umar Etimigbo met Owa Ale Orukusuku a great warrior.

  1. Don’t currupt the history of Ikare ,by claiming that on Agba Ode founder Ikare
We know as a matter of oral and documentation that Batimehin ,the first Olukare who reigned between 1400-1460 was the first Olukare of Ikare ,and the history of Ikare prior to the arrival of Batimehin is well researched and documented by this author
The arrival of your Agba ode if such name ever exist was far later than the arrival of Batimehin or even the reigns of Atiba1462-1496,nor the reign of Aokerese in 1552-1598
All these periods, nothing like Ale existed in Ikare because the arrival of Ale Orukusuku the first Ale of Ikare who actually was from Okoja quarters in Ikare did not prelude the foundation of Emure ijaloke founded in 1780 when they emigrated from Igbo Owa
(Ref history of Emure by HRM oba Ogunleye 11)
Why do I link Ale with Emure ?it is because yo can not divulge the history of Ale from that of Emure as well as from that of Owamilere in Isake oka just because they were all interrelated
Ales mother was a princess of the Elemure and she was also the mother of the first Olusi who became Oba Orimo in Owamilere
Theire mother thevprinces was married to the military head of Oba Ekemure and was a brave worrior
This military head was probably the father of Olusi or Oba Orimo whose history and migration all dated in the seventeen centuries
Though Are progenitor might have earlier migrated with Batimehin until he diverted in his war escapade until he became the war leader of Ekemure after that had emigrated from Igbo Owa led by around 1770
Ale in the course of migration went to settle in his mothers home Emure where his kins and keen were bussy fighting the war for Elemure for Oba Adumore Ogunragbaboja the first Ekemure from Igbo Iwa
Ale was restless to link Orimo his brother but on getting to Emure ,Orimo had left for the Kukuruku hills is the location of okaland ,unfortunately no land was available for him there and hence continue to Ikare until he found a narrow hilly portion at okorun Ikare for settlement,by the time six reigning Olukare had danced to meet theire ancestors
So Olukare Alila whobreigned between 1670-1669 was already an Oba in Ikare,a period that preceded the reign of Oba Adumore Ogunragbaboja who was employer of ales progenitor a war lord to the Oba
From the above evidences ,how come any body a claim that one Agba ode the progenitor of Take founded Ikare
I wish too conclude my submission that the probable arrival of the Take people to Ikare will most probably be in line with the migrated history of Emure and that of Owamilere which did not exceeded early seventeen century ,by derivation the originator if the Take Chueftancy probably arrived Present Ikare during the reign of Olukare Atamaka in 1731-1796’and most likely towards the tail end if Oba Atanaga reign
In as much as this writer is not disclaiming other entitlement thatvAle is pleading for
The superiority of the Olukare of Ikare to that of Ale has been estoppels by the highest court of the land many decades ago
Ikare reduce to understand where they are coming from, and like Emure Ikare should trace their origin from Ikare and bring out theirvmigrstion along with Fagbamila the Orangun of Ila until Ikare settled at a location called Wawa or Gberd not too far from the settlement of Alafin at Katungs otherwise called OyonIle ,
Ondo progenitors settled at Epin not very far from Wawa while the Owu of the present Abeokuta settled at Owu falls in Ifelidun local government of the present day kwars
That is why we calls Ikare Omo Ile Gbere and the members of the Olukares family are called Omo Wawa of which My family is an authentic members though now marginalized
I have a 4oo page well researched and documented history of Ikare

  3. Further research and neighborhood history confirmed that Ale left Owamilere Ehinnabo to settle in Ikare ,most probably after the demise of his blood relation the The Owa Orimo,Olusi the first of Owamilere
History has it that there are two ruling housesvin Owamilere including Ode Adagba ruling house from where Agba Ode came from ,it is believed that the non selection of the next Olusi from Ode Adagba in 1734 after theb death of Oba Orimo, and the erronious and conflicts that emanate from the choice of Owa Ikan from the alternate ruling house made Ale progenitor to emigratevfrom ode Adagba ruling house in Owamilere to Ikare most likely in the reign ofv Olukare Ilekalu or Olukare Otamaga
In the account of the Owamilere and the Olusi family, they emphasized that Oba orimo who was born by the second wife of Olusi ,their progenitor who was the war leader tonElemure was of the same mother and fatther to Ale
Owa ikan paid several visit to Ale in his reigning period during the Aringinya festival
The same community have and worship the same Iye and Uba Owa who both died at three years differences in the seventeen senturies early migration and were both deified today by Owamilere and the Ale of Ikare
A document from Owamilere presented in the history book of Chief Ale Adedoyin showed that Ale in Ikare was a small emigrants from the Olusi families who came to settle in Ikare on or around the seventeen century
The migratory history of Emure from ugbo Owa ,and the migration of Olusi the uba Owa who died in transit all occurred in the early seventeen centuryb, when even Olukare Alila the Alafin of Oyo prince had entrenched his kingship in Ikare after the abdication of Olukare Aokerese in the early fifteen centuries
The authentic Ale who ever functioned in Ikare were Ale Orukusuku who probably was son of Aga ode, Ale Ajiboye,Ale Adegbite grand fathervof Ale Adedoyin who had a long reign of 40 years,,other Made mentioned in the book of Ale Adedoyin probably reign in the transit migration of the Ode Adagba sub set of Owamilere Ehinnabo before their surgeon in Owabwith the Elemure
Please note that Emure and the Owamilere lived in various locations in Ekiti like in Usibwhere they were called Omo Owalusi
My submission is a proof of the preexistence of Olukare dynastybbeforevthe arrival of Ale from Ode Adagba in ISEFA Oka

  4. We also need to note and as well straighten the historical records about ancient Ikare Town by making the public aware that apart from the historical records of Olukare Alila being a Royal Prince of Alaafin of Oyo, he was also the military commander of Alaafin Abipa. He was the veteran worrior that confronted the then Benin imperial army, under the command of Chief Osomo during the reign of Oba Ehingbuda of the Old Benin Empire. This was the period when the Benin empire encroached and occupied a significant portion of the south-eastern border of the Old Oyo empire. During that period the headquarter of the Benin imperial army was located at Usi Ekiti. Prince Alila then and his army met and fought the Benin imperial army right-away at Usi Ekiti the whole Ekiti land down to Akoko land upwards to Ibilo in the present Edo State. This was around the years 1569 to 1608.
