I have always posited that Akure belong to Ekiti. The history of how they got separated is well known to me as told to me by my grand father. In the year 1953, my father told me the then Deji was at Aramoko for the usual Ekiti kings meeting called ‘pelupelu’. Having studied these masquerades, is there any reason why they resemble most Ekiti masquerades especially the Ado, Ikole, Ise, Ikere, masquerades?

  Akure does not have any ancestral link with the Ekitis. Asodeboyede left Ilesa through Osu in company of his friend Olojoda both hunters and farmers before settling in the present day Akure and Oda respectively. That is where Akure derived the following “oriki”…… Omo owa, omo ekun…..akure m’osu ooye.
